THREE WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR WELLNESS GOALS IN 2021

1. The key ingredient to an effective wellness plan is one where new habits can be tacked on to what you are already doing. Suppose, you have a nightly routine of watching the evening news or listening to an educational podcast. Why not maximize that time by ALSO engaging in a 22-minute HIIT workout or 15 minutes of yoga poses? Research shows that short workouts have significant health benefits. 2. Find an easy substitution for what you already eating. Let’s say you have a built-in habit of coming home from work (or nowadays transferring from your home-office to your couch), and eating a bag of chips while drinking a glass of wine. Don’t feel guilty – turn that habit around to one that benefits you. Decide that you will spend that time eating nutrient-rich food that will improve your digestion for your evening meal. Instead, sip on some Kombucha or your own “mocktail” with apple cider-vinegar. Get ½ cup of hummus and cut-up veggies or a bowl of protein-rich of edamame. 3. Consistency. The body likes consistency, especially when you are re-training your system. When you come up with an idea for tips (1) and (2) above, put a plan in place so that you hold yourself accountable for a set amount of time. This should be long enough to see a difference, like one month. I suggest that you also decide on an “evaluation” date, like three months from the start. This allows you to determine whether you have seen at least one positive and lasting outcome from your intervention and make adjustments if necessary.
